RESEARCH & ADVOCACY
RESEARCH CENTER
Each year, YARID welcomes researchers from around the world to collaborate on studies focused on various thematic areas within the refugee context in Uganda, including Self-Reliance, youth, employment, business creation, vocational skills, social cohesion, HIV/AIDS, among other themes. We partner with PhD students, research centers, and institutes to review proposals and promote research that includes refugees as active participants in the entire refugee cycle, ensuring that findings are effectively shared. Our past research collaborations have established a strong evidence base highlighting the capacity of refugees to drive positive change in their communities. For example, in "The Future with Wakimbizi," a refugee-led research initiative with a RLO in Kenya, we examined the unique challenges faced by refugees during COVID-19 and developed key recommendations. Over the past two years, we have refined and disseminated these recommendations with input from refugee and host community leaders, leading to community-centered solutions for refugees. Our key research partners include the University of Toronto, the University of Oxford, and the Refugee-led Research Hub.
